I wasn’t exactly sure on what I was going to do for this
independent project but I knew one thing was certain that it had to incorporate
architecture with elemental forms in order to showcase my style of work. Also I
took a chance to look back at my previous sculptures and it did give me a few
inspirations on what I could do for these final pieces. During the development I
used the pottery wheel to create multiple of different forms, the outcome turn
out with some great form but then I couldn’t figure out what I was going to do
with them next. After giving it some time to think a few things over, I remembered
some of the techniques I used during the Touch project that favored the most
and should incorporate some of those elements into these pieces. For example,
using press models and then altering the original shape and creating patterns
using small dot and spirals. That’s the great things working with clay, improvising
as you go. At the end, both of these pieces had distinctive holes at the top
due to creations from the pottery wheel and I did not want to leave them empty,
they were ideal sizes for candlesticks and this gave the sculpture purpose
rather than collecting dust later as a mere decoration. This semester I feel in
love with the metallic and watercolor glazes, both are very complementary with
each other. Wish I had a kiln and pottery wheel because I could continue making
more similar to these pieces.
